Nine times out of ten, if you ask someone if they care about their
appearance, they will say yes. Although it is more likely to receive an honest
and immediate answer from females, I feel men have the exact same feelings
towards this question. Growing up, adults tell children “looks aren’t
everything” or “it’s the inside that matters” but the harsh reality is that
humans are attracted to the better looking males or females. Some reporters may
see these NBA players as dressing like a nerd but surely these multimillion-dollar
athletes feel that they are dressed to impress. Moreover, these cardigans,
plaid shirts, suspenders, and think framed glasses do not come at a cheap
price.
Pictured in the image above is Dwayne Wade in a press conference wearing
a sweater that is priced around $150. Ralph Lauren, Vinyard Vines, Brooks
Brothers, etc. are all high-end clothing brands, which can demonstrate the
amount of money these athletes are making. It can be assumed that NBA players
are spending their money towards fashion rather than getting a free t-shirt
from their basketball teams.
The argument on whether The Fresh Prince of Bel Air is a direct
influence on the NBA players is definitely a shot in the dark. Although these
new fashion trends are comparable to Carlton in the TV show Fresh Prince of Bel
Air, it is unlikely that these NBA players strived to look like Carlton.
History often repeats itself and this is also true with fashion. An example of
this is that bell-bottom jeans were a huge fashion hit in the 60s and cycled
back in trend in the early 2000s. All in all the NBA players are dressing to
impress and I don’t see any wrong in their classy outfit choices.
